The great Greek, Georgios Papanicolaou     “The first observation of cancer cells in the smear of the uterine cervix gave me one of the greatest thrills I ever experienced during my scientific career.”   In 1925, the cytopathologist Georgios Papanicolaou worked as a researcher at the department of anatomy of the Cornell University Medical College.
